Introduction

Overlooking the city of Logan in Northern Utah, this residential balcony offers stunning views – but years of wear and tear had taken a toll on both its appearance and functionality. The old coverings had deteriorated, no longer providing protection from the elements, and water was beginning to seep in around the wall flashings, creating an unsafe environment for the homeowners.

The surface had become slick and posed a slipping hazard, while the overall look was dated and no longer matched the clean, well-maintained exterior of this beautiful family home.

ExterPro, a trusted, family-owned Stormcure Authorized Installer with a strong reputation for quality exterior remodeling, was brought in to deliver a solution that would not only solve the waterproofing and safety issues, but also restore the balcony’s overall appearance.

The Stormcure Solution

To begin the transformation, ExterPro stripped back the old coverings to expose the original wood deck roof, which was found to be in good condition and retained. The surface was primed with Stormcure SA Primer, then overlaid with Stormcure standard base ply, installed butt-jointed for a smooth, seamless base.

Protec FW-25 was applied across the entire area, including the vulnerable wall flashings, providing a fully waterproof membrane. After thorough sanding for an ultra-smooth surface, a second coat of Protec FW-25 was added.

A custom tile-effect finish was created using fine masking tape and a third coat of FW-25, into which ExterPro’s bespoke quartz sand blend was broadcast. Once dry, excess sand was brushed off, tape removed, and a final coat of PolyFinish Clear sealed the surface for lasting durability.

Black-pigmented Protec FW-25 was also used to perfectly match the balcony’s stanchions, creating a cohesive, high-end look. The client was thrilled with the result, due to the expert craftsmanship, flawless waterproofing, and a stunning finish.
