The certified Carbon Neutral Protec Evolve system was specified on this refurbishment project due to its ultra-low odour and sustainable credentials. With its fully cold-applied, flame-free installation with reduced nuisance odours, works were able to be carried out whilst day-to-day operations at the fire station continued.
Project Challenges
Following a survey by the Stormcure Authorized Contractor, the existing PVC single ply membrane was found to be in a poor and aged condition. With PV cells on the roof, regular maintenance was taking place, which had caused punctures and damage to the waterproofing membrane.
Some areas of delamination had also occurred, particularly at the parapet walls, where the single ply was slumping away from the vertical sections.
Despite various patch repairs having been carried out, water ingress continued to be a problem. It was imperative that the roof could be made waterproof again within a rapid timeframe and with minimum disruption.
The Stormcure Solution
After taken numerous core tests, it was demonstrated that the existing roof coverings were in a suitable condition to be retained and overlaid. This would mean no costly and disruptive strip-and-replace works were necessary, keeping costs to a minimum and allowing the Fireman’s Hall to continue operations uninterrupted.
The certified Carbon Neutral Protec Evolve system was specified on this refurbishment project due to its ultra-low odour and sustainable credentials. With its fully cold-applied, flame-free installation with reduced nuisance odours, works were able to be carried out whilst day to day operations at the fire station continued.
With the use of the advanced SP Primer, Protec Evolve formed an excellent bond to the single-ply membrane substrate, providing total adhesion without relying on mechanical fixings.
The system was also specified due to it’s exceptional toughness that would allow the PV cells to be loose-laid and weighted on top of the membrane without risk of damage. To provide a safe and durable anti-slip surface to enable the maintenance of the PV cells, the Stormcure ProGrip system was specified to form walkways in a bright yellow color. This eliminated the need for walkway pads and improved roof access safety.
The use of the Protec Evolve resin system was crucial in helping meet the three-week project deadline, thanks to its efficiency and simple installation. The waterproofing solution was complemented by the installation of new outlets and terminations at upstand abutments to further enhance waterproofing integrity.
The finished roof underwent a thorough inspection and signed off for warrantee, leaving the client exceedingly pleased with both the service and the product delivered.
