Project Challenges

This Old Manor is a breathtaking venue used for weddings, corporate events, private rentals, and gym facilities. Nestled in the picturesque countryside, it is considered one of the finest properties around.

A large terrace, located above an extended part of the ground floor, had been plagued by leaks for some time despite attempts at localized repairs. Over the years, various repairs had been made to fix the problem, but none had been fully effective. With the gym and swimming pool located beneath the terrace, both finished to a high standard, the ongoing water damage was becoming an increasingly costly and disruptive issue.

In a last-ditch effort, the client had installed scaffolding with a canopy roof over the terrace to redirect water. However, this temporary fix was unattractive, and for such a beautiful venue, it was far from an acceptable solution.

The Stormcure Solution

Core tests were conducted and revealed a buildup of multiple layers, showing the numerous attempts to fix the roof’s problems. Working closely with Stormcure’s Technical Services, a detailed plan was developed to resolve the issues.

The existing layers were to be stripped and removed, exposing the insulation underneath, which would then be inspected for defects and repaired or replaced as needed. A fast-drying, polymer-modified screed would be applied to create the necessary slopes, followed by Stormcure’s Protec FW-25 system with Quartz Sand & Stormcure PolyFinish for a durable, slip-resistant surface.

The ornate railing surrounding the terrace was initially thought to be a source of water leaks, and the client expected significant costs for removal, repairs, and reinstallation. However, after further investigation, it was found that the railing and lead flashing were in good condition.

Stormcure was able to design a solution that allowed the railing to remain in place, with the new waterproofing system tucked beneath the existing flashing. This saved the client a substantial amount of money and reduced labor time.

The client had weddings scheduled throughout late fall and early winter, and set aside a few weeks for any refurbishment work to be done before the events resumed. Given the extensive repairs required, it was crucial that the waterproofing system could be installed quickly and efficiently.

For waterproofing high-traffic areas, Stormcure’s Protec FW-25 system is ideal, as it can be applied rapidly with minimal disruption. Its simple three-coat process—embedment coat with CSM reinforcement, top coat, and anti-slip finish—reduces the number of layers and installation time. The system’s RapidCure™ technology, with cure times ranging from 30-60 minutes, enables large sections to be completed within hours.

The work was completed on schedule without interfering with any of the planned weddings—much to the relief of many couples!

The use of the Protec FW-25 resin system was crucial in helping meet the three-week project deadline, thanks to its efficiency and simple installation. The waterproofing solution was complemented by the installation of new outlets and terminations at upstand abutments to further enhance waterproofing integrity.

The finished roof underwent a thorough inspection and was signed off for warrantee by Stormcure’s Technical Services, leaving the client exceedingly pleased with both the service and the product delivered. The finished roof gave the client complete peace of mind that the long-standing leak issues were finally resolved.
