When this restaurant roof started to fail – causing interior problems and disrupting the business’s workflow, a fast solution was essential. Our Authorized Contractors, RTX Roofing & Construction, chose the reliable Protec FW-25 liquid-applied membrane. With its quick curing time and guaranteed watertight protection, the client gained peace of mind against Texas’s extreme weather while also reducing the heat build-up through its outstanding solar reflectivity.
Challenges
This popular fast food restaurant in Winnsboro, Texas had a TPO roof that was aged and showing signs of failure from years of prolonged exposure to heavy Texas rain and extreme heat. The roof vents that exhausting air from the kitchen had over time led to grease and oils coming into contact with the TPO, which had become embrittled due to fatty acid degradation.
The roof had began to leak, causing issues to the interior, affecting the workflow of the business. The client required a solution that would provide long-term protection from leaks with minimal disruption to the restaurant’s operations.
Stormcure Authorized Contractor RTX Roofing & Construction was consulted and recommended Stormcure Protec FW-25 as the ideal solution to meet these challenges.
Areas of the damaged TPO were removed and replaced with Stormcure SA Base Ply to establish a reliable base for the liquid membrane. This was followed by the SA Canister Primer to ensure outstanding adhesion with Stormcure’s liquid applied membrane.
The Stormcure Solution
Perimeter edges and flashings were treated with Protec FW-25 Resin reinforcement with Flashing Mat. This commercial roof housed many electrical units on the deck, therefore it was vital that these were made watertight.
The Protec FW-25 liquid-applied membrane made this process straightforward, as its seamless application easily adapts to tight spaces and intricate details, delivering quick and reliable waterproofing around sensitive equipment.
Protec FW-25 Base Coat was then installed to the field roof area and fully reinforced with PolyMat 225. With ambient temperatures exceeding 95°F, the team selected Stormcure’s IRR Protec FW-25 resin to minimize heat absorption and reduce energy demand, an ideal solution for the intense Texas summers.
Thanks to our RapidCure technology, following curing after 30minutes, the top coat could be applied to complete the installation.
Conclusion
With one crew, RTX Roofing & Construction were able to install the full Stormcure Protec FW-25 system at 1,000ft² an hour, meaning the roof was fully recovered in a tight timeframe that exceeded the client’s expectations.
The use of our IRR White pigment technology means significant energy bill savings resulting from the outstanding solar reflectivity. Protec FW-25 is also fully resistant to grease and oils, meaning there is no risk of the past problems repeating.
The client was impressed by the speed and quality work by RTX Roofing & Construction, with a roof they can be proud of that is protecting their restaurant from the severe Texas weather. The finished roof is not only visually appealing but also low-maintenance and highly durable, ensuring long-term protection for years to come, thanks to Stormcure’s systems.
