Residential Re-Roof

This high-end residential property required a re-roof after the existing roofing system had deteriorated significantly and was no longer providing reliable protection. Stormcure Authorized Installers, True North Exteriors, was appointed to undertake the refurbishment works and selected the Stormcure MPeC-powered Protec FW-25 liquid-applied waterproofing system due to its seamless, rapid curing capabilities, and long-term performance.

Project Challenges

The project was carried out during the unpredictable New England spring season, where fluctuating temperatures and intermittent rainfall created challenging installation conditions. Maintaining temporary weather protection throughout the programme was therefore critical to protect the newly installed timber substrate and avoid delays to the project schedule.

In addition, the property featured several complex perimeter and roof hatch detailing areas that required a waterproofing solution capable of achieving fully bonded and seamless detailing without the weaknesses associated with traditional sheet membrane laps and joints.

The client also required a premium finished appearance suitable for a luxury residential property while ensuring long-term durability and minimal future maintenance requirements.

The Stormcure Solution

The existing roof system was stripped back in full, with the deteriorated wood deck removed to expose the structural substrate beneath. A new plywood deck was then installed to provide a stable and structurally sound base for the new waterproofing system.

To protect the newly installed deck during the variable spring weather conditions, Stormcure SA Foil-Faced Base Ply was bonded directly to the plywood substrate. The self-adhesive base ply provided an immediate temporary waterproofing layer while also creating an ideal substrate for the subsequent application of the MPeC-powered Protec FW-25 system.

This approach allowed the installation programme to continue efficiently despite changing weather conditions, while ensuring the integrity of the new timber deck remained fully protected throughout the works.

All perimeter flashings and detailing works were completed first using Stormcure MPeC-powered Protec FW-25 resin in conjunction with Flashing Mat 450 reinforcement. This created a seamless and fully reinforced waterproof detail around roof perimeters, penetrations, and the roof access hatch.

The reinforced liquid detailing system enabled complex junctions and transitions to be fully encapsulated, eliminating the risks typically associated with mechanically fixed flashings or traditional sheet membrane overlaps.

Once all detailing works had been completed, the MPeC-powered Protec FW-25 base coat was applied across the field areas directly onto the SA Foil-Faced Base Ply substrate. The system’s rapid-curing technology allowed the membrane to fully cure in approximately one hour, significantly accelerating the installation programme and reducing exposure to changing weather conditions.

Following cure of the base coat, the Protec FW-25 top coat was applied to complete the installation and provide a sleek, seamless, and highly durable finished membrane.

The completed roof refurbishment delivered a premium waterproofing solution perfectly suited to the architectural quality of the property. The finished MPeC-powered Protec FW-25 system provides a fully bonded, seamless membrane with excellent resistance to standing water, UV exposure, thermal movement, and long-term weathering.

Thanks to Stormcure’s MPeC-powered composite membranes, developed using the proprietary technology of Roberts Group, this project benefited from a roofing system that combines a specially modified polyester resin with chopped strand mat (CSM) fiberglass reinforcement to create a highly durable, waterproof, and flexible membrane. The advanced MPeC technology enabled installation with unrivalled speed and in a wide range of temperatures, while delivering long-term performance through exceptional strength, impact resistance, and superior resistance to UV degradation.

True North Exteriors successfully delivered a robust and aesthetically refined roofing solution capable of protecting the property from the elements for decades to come. The client was extremely pleased with the completed installation and the high standard of workmanship delivered throughout the project by the True North Exteriors team.
