The flat roof area above this vast Power Plant had been suffering from water ingress as a result of failings in the EPDM membrane. Due to the expensive machinery housed within, a watertight solution was needed as soon as possible.
Project Challenges
The flat roof area above this large power plant had persistent issues with water ingress due to failures in the existing EPDM membrane. Despite multiple patch repairs across the roof area, leaks continued to pose a problem. Restoring the roof’s waterproofing integrity quickly and with minimal disruption was essential.
The water ingress was a concerning issue as this large Power Plant had expensive machinery housed within. There was potential for costly disruption if the leaking continued, which could lead to expensive downtime and hinder operational efficiency.
To address this, Stormcure was brought in to implement a rapid, effective waterproofing solution.
The Stormcure Solution
Stormcure’s Technical Team carried out site visits and core tests to determine the system suitable for this roof area. The Protec FW-25 System was recommended due to its highly durable nature. This meant that PV cells could be loose-laid and hold weight over the membrane following completion of works.
The Protec FW-25 System offers a flexible and seamless membrane that eliminates the risk of water ingress around penetration points, perfectly suited for this failing power plant roof.
The failed roof coverings were removed to expose the concrete deck beneath, and the Protec FW-25 system was applied directly to the concrete substrate. Thanks to its RapidCure technology, the system cures in just 30-60 minutes, minimizing disruption for the client.
Since the system is cold-applied, it avoids the safety risks associated with open flames and hot torches used in traditional roll-applied systems.
