Project Challenges

This seven-story office building, located in a busy town, served as the headquarters for key official functions. Known for its distinctive architectural design, the building features a sturdy vertical grid and solid stone cladding that complements the area’s architectural heritage.

The first-floor terrace had long suffered from leaks, causing water intrusion and compromising the insulation. As a result of the water damage, the insulation had begun to deteriorate, leading to higher energy bills.

The client sought an Stormcure Authorized Contractor to implement an effective solution. Stormcure offers a uniquely cost-effective, high-performance solution to thermally upgrade areas with heavy foot traffic.

The Stormcure Solution

There were several design constraints that made it challenging to efficiently improve the thermal performance using conventional balcony systems. Adding a plywood carrier layer would have reduced the thickness of insulation, limiting the overall effectiveness.

A durable waterproofing membrane with a tough, anti-slip finish was also essential to ensure long-term protection against leaks. Stormcure Protec FW-25 was the ideal solution for this thermal upgrade.

High-performance rigid polyisocyanurate (PIR) foam insulation with a high-strength, non-compressible, puncture-resistant facing board was specified in conjunction with Stormcure Protec FW-25 system to providing complete protection for regular balcony use.

The project was completed quickly and efficiently, keeping the building fully operational while meeting all the client’s requirements. After a rigorous inspection, the finished walkways were approved for warranty, providing the client peace of mind for years to come.
