Boat Dock Deck

In this stunning lake house community in North Texas, a balcony deck situated directly above a boat dock had suffered years of moisture and UV exposure. Seeking a long-term, durable solution that could withstand heavy foot traffic and the weight of outdoor furniture while maintaining aesthetic appeal, RTX Roofing & Construction recommended a Stormcure solution for a strong, reliable and aesthetic finish.

Introduction

This boat dock had suffered from years of prolonged exposure to moisture and heat, which had created issues in the substrate. The client was after a permanent solution that would look great and take the use of regular traffic and balcony furniture.

RTX Roofing & Construction, a certified Stormcure installer, recommended the Protec FW-25 system combined with the hardwearing PolyFinish surfacing system, in Pebble Gray. The existing metal-supported structure had been overlaid with ZIP System panels, which served as the substrate for the waterproofing build-up.

Stormcure’s foil-faced SA Base Ply was applied directly over the ZIP panels to create a suitable base for the liquid membrane. Followed by our SA Canister Primer, which was used to ensure strong adhesion, followed by weighted rolling to eliminate air pockets and secure a smooth, uniform bond.

The Stormcure Solution

Perimeter edges and critical detail areas were reinforced with Protec FW-25. The loose-laid handrail system was temporarily lifted, allowing membrane application underneath for a continuous, watertight seal. The handrail was reinstalled upon completion.

Protec FW-25 was then applied to the main deck surface, fully reinforced with PolyMat 225. Given the high ambient temperature, over 95°F, the team opted for Stormcure’s SlowCure Protec FW-25 resin. Our SlowCure formulation is used to extend working time and prevent premature curing, ensuring efficient application and minimal material waste, extremely handy in hot summers in Texas.

After 30 minutes of curing, thanks to our RapidCure tehcnology, the base layer was then sanded with an orbital sander to produce a smooth, visually clean surface for finishing. Another 30 minutes later, the PolyFinish surfacing system was applied in Pebble Gray with decorative chips. This final layer created a slip-resistant, barefoot-safe, UV-stable, and abrasion-resistant surface, ideal for long-term residential balcony use.

Conclusion

RTX Roofing & Construction delivered a permanent waterproofing and surfacing solution that successfully met the homeowner’s expectations for both performance and visual appeal. The result? A highly satisfied client and a standout project.

The completed balcony deck is not only visually striking but also low-maintenance and built to last, transforming the space into a true focal point of the property. With its durability and modern finish, it’s set to turn heads for years to come.

Meeting the clients requirements, the clients boat deck has been significantly enhanced both the functionality and aesthetic of their outdoor area — with zero ongoing upkeep, thanks to Stormcure’s systems.
