The Baptism Pool at this historic church building required a refurbishment to ensure its continued integrity, as it was showing signs of aging. The base of the pool had become extremely smooth over the years, raising concerns regarding slip hazards for the congregants. A quick solution was needed and the client chose Stormcure to deliver a high performance and attractive solution.
Challenges
Following a survey by the Stormcure Authorized Contractor, the existing baptism pool was showing signs of aging, as the surface of the pool was extremely smooth, making it a slip hazard for congregants and an urgent problem that needed to be resolved. The first thing Stormcure Authorized Contractors were eager to fix was the concrete.
As this project was in a place of worship, operations had to be carried out a quickly as possible, with a strict deadline to meet, to ensure day-to-day operations could continue within the church. Protec FW-25 was specified for this project due to its curing times of 30-60 minutes per coat, making it the ideal waterproofing system to meet this tight deadline.
The Stormcure Solution
After being primed with Uni-Primer DP, two base layers of Protec FW-25 reinforced with PolyMat 225 were applied to create a robust, seamless and high durable waterproof layer.
A top coat was then applied, in a custom blue pigment chosen by the church, created the desired aesthetic to match the rest of the pool. This was another reason why Protec FW-25 was specified, due to its sleek and neat finish with the ability to match any RAL color, essential for meeting client’s criteria.
To reduce the risk of slipping, quartz sand aggregate was embedded into a layer of Protec FW-25 resin and sealed with PolyFinish Clear. The finished project enhanced the aesthetics, safety and waterproof integrity of the baptism pool, leaving the client extremely satisfied with the finished result.
