As a company passionate about manufacturing quality products, Aston Martin’s choice to work with Stormcure was a natural one. A number of key criteria for the roofing works were set out by the client. The new roofing system had to be cold-applied to eliminate the risk of accidental fire during installation, highly durable and minimise disruption to operations during the project.
Challenges
After leaks were reported and investigated, the findings of the survey were presented to Aston Martin, where the Protec FW-25 System was the recommended solution. Core tests taken during the inspection had revealed that despite the leaking through the existing PVC single-ply membrane, the existing underlying build-up of rigid poly-iso was found to be dry and in sound enough condition to be retained as the base for the new roofing system, which avoided the additional cost and disruption associated with a full tear-off.
The existing single ply was covered in algae and debris, which once cleaned back revealed an aged membrane that was suffering from issues including mechanical damage and lap failure. However, with localized repairs, the single ply membrane was deemed in a suitable condition to provide a sound substrate for a new liquid applied membrane solution.
The Stormcure Solution
The existing roof covering was cleaned, prepared and primed with Stormcure SP Primer, allowing the liquid applied membrane to form an outstanding bond to the existing roof. The Protec FW-25 was then applied, creating a durable and monolithic membrane. The many thousand linear feet of seams in the single-ply membrane were encapsulated, resulting in a new roof covering with no seams, no welds and no weak points.
The finished roof provided a flexible and extra-tough waterproof membrane that was supported by the trusted Stormcure Warranty. Aston Martin Lagonda now have the peace of mind that the roof above this landmark facility will be leak-free for decades to come.
